The Great Cat of Kuching

The Great Cat of Kuching at the intersection of Jalan Central and Jalan Padungan, surrounded by decorations for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday marking the end of Ramadan. The Kuching South City Council commissioned local artist, Yong Kee Yet, to create the 1.5m-tall statue, which stands at the entrance to Chinatown. It was the first of a number of cat statues that are now found throughout Kuching. (Brian K. Smith photo.)
