Jalan Padungan Cat Pillar, Kuching

Kuching is known as "Cat City", said to be named after a local variety of green longan fruit (called mata kucing in Malay) that looks like a cat's eye. To play up this theme, there are a number of cat statues scattered throughout the city. There is even a Cat Museum. This cat statue also features another local icon on its pillar, the Rafflesia flower, found in Gunung Gading National Park. (Brian K. Smith photo.)
