Hilltribe Women Grading Tea, 101 Tea Plantation, Doi Mae Salong

Hilltribe women sorting tea leaves into different grades at the 101 Tea Plantation. This tea is grown in gardens on Doi Mae Salong Mountain, located in Chiang Rai province outside Santikhiri (สันติคีรี), near the Golden Triangle. High Mountain Oolong teas are cultivated here in ideal growing conditions at elevations ranging from 1,200 to 1,400 meters. Santikhiri (formerly Mae Salong) is also noteworthy in that most of the residents are Chinese, descended from the Republic of China's 93rd Army Division that eventually found asylum here after the Kuomintang lost the Chinese civil war in 1949.
