Adventurocity's Rick Green having a pint of Imperial Pumpkin Ale at Great Leap Brewing, a brewpub in a converted courtyard house (sìhéyuàn) in Beijing's Dongcheng District. Started in 2010 by Carl Setzer and Liu Fang, Great Leap was the first craft brewery in Beijing not to specialize in producing Central European-inspired beer. Rather, their focus is in localizing a North American craft brewing philosophy by using Chinese-grown and processed hops, tea, spices, fruit, vegetables, coffee, sugar and honey. At least a dozen GLB beers are continually available on tap, with seasonals changing regularly. For the ultimate Beijing craft beer experience, kicking back in Great Leap's pleasant courtyard with a few uniquely Chinese pints is a most pleasurable way to cap a day of exploring the capital's ancient sites.
