Monkey at Swayambhunath Temple, Kathmandu's most ancient Buddhist holy site associated with the creation myth of Kathmandu Valley. Swayambhunath is also known as the Monkey Temple after its resident simians.

Monkeys are sacred to both Buddhists and Hindus on the basis of the Hindu epic, the Ramayana, in which the protaganist was protected by Hanuman, the Monkey God.
