Of the Hong Kong SAR's total land area of 1,092km2, three quarters is countryside. There are 23 Country Parks and 15 Special Areas that set aside 41, 582ha for nature conservation and outdoor recreation. Many of these are readily accessible by public transit or taxi and provide an interesting contrast to the typical visitor's experience of the city.
