Whimsical figures of Hindu deities decorate a roof at the Sri Mariamman Temple in Chinatown. Built in 1827, Sri Mariamman is Singapore's oldest Hindu temple. It is also noteworthy for two Chinese-style windows on its walls that are throught to have been specially constructed for Chinese to offer their prayers from outside the temple.
