The Thian Hock Keng Temple — dedicated to Ma Cho Po, the Mother of Heavenly Sages and Goddess of the Sea — is Singapore's oldest Chinese temple and most important for the Hokkien community. Constructed from 1839-42, building techniques and most materials were imported from China, including the Ma Cho Po statue.
