R
ick Green has an interest in the world, its people, and events & issues of the past & present. Through the discovery of the colorful, the extraordinary, and the unusual, he hopes to give people a better appreciation for our natural and cultural diversity in order to encourage the preservation of our heritage, rather than to allow "progress" destroy it.

Rick's a writer, photographer, and entrepreneur with a background in multimedia and a BA in Political Science from the University of British Columbia, Canada. He's authored four CD-ROM titles — The Egyptian Pyramids, The Great Barrier Reef, The Trans-Siberian Railway, and When Disaster Strikes — and co-authored three others — Astonishing Asia, Beyond the Nine Dragons, and Swimming with Sharks and other Dangerous Marine Animals.

While living in Asia, he helped develop consumer CD-ROM products for multimedia pioneer InterOptica Publishing, a company started by the noted English travel writer Simon Winchester.

In 1994, Rick co-founded one of Hong Kong's leading interactive development companies, producing numerous multimedia projects for companies such as Apple Computer, AT&T, Dow Jones, the Hong Kong Tourist Association, MTV, and Standard Chartered Bank, in addition to the company's own consumer CD-ROM & Web products, such as the Orientation series of regional search engines. This work was recognized in 1997 when the company won a silver at the Hong Kong Small Business Awards.

When Rick isn't traveling, he's either dragon boating, hiking, reading, cooking in someone's kitchen ("I'll get the ingredients, you can cook."), or pursuing his other passions — beer, barbecue, chilis, movies, music, and restaurant hopping.
